Meet Barbara Richman, Fusion Somatics

Hi, I’m Barbara. I began movement training to address a serious back injury that had not been helped by numerous forms of treatment.

Now, almost 40 years later, I am stronger, more active, and more pain-free than I could ever have imagined.

In my journey to wellness I have certified in Pilates, Yamuna BodyRolling, Antigym, and Clinical Somatics. I’m also an ACE Certified Personal Trainer, focusing on Functional Fitness.

While I value all my training, and utilize elements from many sources, my teaching is deeply informed by Clinical Somatics principles and practices. I love to share this work and to assist clients in finding relief from pain, renewed mobility, and the freedom to live their best lives.

About Clinical Somatics

Clinical Somatics releases chronic muscle tension and restores natural, pain-free movement patterns. Rooted in the science of neuromuscular learning, it teaches the brain to recognize and reset locked-in, damaging patterns — often caused by stress, injury, or repetitive postures—through a process of deliberate muscular contraction and mindful release. Instead of stretching or passive treatments, Clinical Somatics emphasizes internal awareness and active control, helping you improve posture, mobility, and overall body alignment. It addresses persistent pain, movement limitations, and stress-related tension, retraining the nervous and muscular systems for improved freedom and ease.

About Functional Fitness

Functional Fitness focuses on improving your ability to perform real-life movements with strength, control, and efficiency. Instead of isolating single muscles, it emphasizes whole body, natural movement patterns that you use in everyday tasks such as walking, climbing stairs, carrying weight, or enjoying recreational sport. Functional sessions integrate Clinical Somatics, Pilates, strength, or function based exercise to build core stability, balance, mobility, and coordination alongside strength and endurance, helping reduce injury risk and enhance overall physical capability. The result is a body that not only looks fit but also moves well in the situations that matter most outside the gym.
