RESOURCES
For those who want to explore Somatic practice and theory a little more deeply:
Somatics – Reawakening the Mind’s Control of Movement, Flexibility and Health;
Thomas Hanna; illustrated, revised edition 2004 Indigo | Amazon
Somatic Movement – Restoring Functional, Pain-Free Movement and Moving
Towards Connection and Wholeness; Karen Statner; 2024 Amazon
Somatic Movement Videos on YouTube
Many somatic practitioners post videos of Thomas Hanna’s movements on YouTube, with varying quality. These three channels can be counted on for variety, good information, and quality teaching.
LearnSomatics (Colm McDonnell) has lots of great short videos that explore the movements with both traditional and contemporary approaches.
Somatics for You (Susan Koenig) has both classes and shorter movement videos. Susan is one of Thomas Hanna’s original students and a very fine practitioner with a deep knowledge of the work.
Essential Somatics (Martha Peterson) – these videos are clear and easy to follow, and increasingly Martha is posting great information about theory and the underlying principles of Clinical Somatic Education.
Clinical Somatic Websites
These websites, from organizations and practitioners, provide good information about Clinical Somatics, and also showcase offerings of interest, sometimes with newsletters and blogs.
